A) If you are a student looking to enter into an industry that requires flying a drone, you can choose to do the Remote Pilot License or choose the AVI30419 Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). The Cert III provides an introduction into the specific industry you are looking to enter and is designed for students with no experience in that industry.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in Australia requires a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) to operate a drone (or Remotely Piloted Aircraft — RPA) that weighs above 2kg and is being used for commercial purposes. We will provide you with the training to qualify for both a RePL and an Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate (AROC), which is required to operate a drone in controlled airspace.
The RePL is the license required by CASA to operate a drone commercially. An employer looking for a drone pilot will require this license. The Certificate III is aimed at students to give them accreditation for further study. The Certificate III provides the student with their RePL and it’s application in a specific industry (for example surveying, mining, agriculture). From a commercial perspective, the Certificate III and RePL provide the same licensing qualifications for employment and flying an drone. The Certificate III is chosen when a student is looking for credit towards a university degree or further study within their chosen field.
They are all one and the same, it is just the terminology that has changed as the technology has evolved. You can read further about the wording and how it evolved here
