Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get my drone licence online in Australia?
Yes. The Online RePL course lets you complete all theory online at your own pace, then attend a 2-day in-person practical assessment at a location near you. You receive the same CASA-certified Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) as the full in-person course.
How much does a drone licence cost in Australia?
The Online RePL is $1,650 inc GST — the most affordable pathway to a commercial drone licence in Australia. The in-person RePL course is $2,400 + GST. Both include your Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC).
How long does it take to get a RePL?
The online theory is self-paced — most students complete it in 2–4 weeks alongside work. The practical assessment is 2 days. Once you pass, National Drones submits your application to CASA, and you typically receive your RePL within 5–10 business days.
Do I need a drone licence to fly commercially in Australia?
Yes. CASA requires a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) for any commercial drone operations, including photography, surveying, inspections, and spraying. Recreational flying under 2kg does not require a licence if you follow CASA's standard operating conditions.
Where are the practical assessment locations?
Practical sessions run monthly in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Canberra. You can complete the online theory from anywhere and choose the practical location most convenient to you.
